Brushing a Path through the Karoo veld

Translating the drawing of the Snake Eagle Thinking Path into the large geoglyph was quite a challenge.  Firstly a string grid of 6m x 6m quadrants was marked out, under the guidance of Rowena Hay and Chris Hartnady, from one of our sponsors, Umvoto.

Of course, when you're on the ground, you have no idea what you are drawing! So the team then used this grid system to draw each line of the Snake Eagle in proportion relative to the grid structure. Brushes were used to clear the path, with careful attention to replanting those plants we disturbed. It was hard work and muscle was needed!
